How do Mats Form?


When loose hairs become tangled and wrapped around each other, usually occurring in high friction areas of the dog.

Especially if not brushed out, more hair oils off the coat and dead skin and dirt all add to the mat causing it to get bigger and spread further.

The Risks of Matting


Matting will cause pain and discomfort for the dog, it can lead to serious health problems and issues if the matting is not removed. Skin infections can be caused by matting, it is a breeding ground for flees and for places for ticks to hide. If the dog is severally matted it can cause the dog to struggle regulate their body temperature, it can even lead to aggressive behaviour. 

 

How To Avoid Matting? 


  • REGULAR GROOMS
  • Brushing your dog regularly
  • Pay attention to high friction areas when brushing
  • Brushing after bathing a dog, avoid too much towel drying
  • Brushing when dog is wet
  • Avoid leaving a collar or harness on for long period of time
